PITTSFIELD -- Many Berkshire County residents awoke to snow-dusted rooftops and vehicles while other commuters discovered icy spots this morning, after some winter-like weather settled into the area overnight.

Slippery roads due to ice were reported early Friday on Florida Mountain and along Route 2. Members of the Massachusetts Highway Department responded with sand and road salt.

Other hill towns reported some slick spots, including Windsor and Cummington, causing a few motorists to skid off the road. No major accidents were reported this morning.

Cold temperatures will continue through tonight, according to the National Weather Service. The day will remain cloudy, with a 20 percent chance of rain or snow precipitation, and a high around 42 degrees. Tonight's temperatures may dip down to the low 20s.

Sunshine and warmth are expected to return on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures expected to hover between the mid-40s and 50s.
