Robert DeFreest, 53, was last seen in early June when he was the victim of an unarmed robbery, according to Detective Capt. Patrick F. Barry, commander of the Pittsfield Police Department's Special Operations Division.
Since then, no one has seen DeFreest, who was a regular fixture on the streets of Pittsfield.
Investigators took advantage of today's clear skies, leafless trees, and calm weather conditions to scour sections of Pittsfield, including the Mill Street area behind The Clock Tower Business Park and sections of the river bordering Wahconah Park and Pittsfield Cemetery.
Those areas of the city are frequented by homeless people, according to Pittsfield Police Detective Thomas Bowler.
"Visibility was clear [today] so we picked a day to use those resources," said Bowler, referring to Massachusetts State Police air patrol helicopter and K-9 units.
